Do you have one leg shorter than the other? If you do, you may have a compensatory scoliosis (curvature in your spine) with low back pain. This is how to fix it.

Foot Structures That Cause Bad Posture

Some bad foot postures may cause bad spinal posture. Fallen arches (over pronation of  the foot) may cause one leg to become shorter than the other. Exercise Your Fallen Arches

Short Leg Syndrome

One problem with a fallen arch is that when you are weight-bearing this usually causes the pelvis on the same side to drop down, giving you a functional short leg (vs. anatomically shorter from say a broken leg).

Short Leg Scoliosis

When the pelvis drops down it takes the spine along with it and causes a scoliosis (curvature of the spine). You can see how the lower spine in the above image is now curving toward the short leg side. These people usually develop scoliosis back pain as the muscles are no longer working in balance.

Heel Lifts For Leg Length Discrepancy

Below you can see my own x-rays. The first x-ray was taken in chiropractic college. My short leg was measured 9mm shorter on the right when weight-bearing. This explained my one-sided  low back pain. (Ease One-Sided Low Back Pain) The 3rd image shows you my short leg scoliosis and then how that scoliosis becomes almost straight when I wear a heel lift. The college wouldn’t take this x-ray for me so I had my colleague take it for me once I owned my own practice. I exposed myself to radiation so I would understand how best to help myself and my patients and I’m glad that I did!
