My Posture Story
Comments: One Response
I came into chiropractic 20 years ago. I was living in Toronto and suffering daily headaches after a minor road traffic accident. I found Dr Brian Sher (a burly hunk of a man) and his chiropractic adjustments made my headaches disappear.
I was so impressed that I up and left Canada (and my then relationship) to study chiropractic in the UK. I graduated in 2001 (3 degrees in the bag). There was one issue, one bugbear, one total frustration throughout my chiropractic training and many years that followed. I hated my posture. No matter what I did, I could not shift my forward head posture. This drove me to distraction. I was ashamed to be a chiropractor with bad posture. This is me in 2006 at the opening of my chiropractic clinic. I’m embarrassed to show you.
I tried everything. I qualified with a fellowship in the Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP)- a qualification only a handful of UK chiropractors have. I had x-rays taken of my own neck and back and they horrified me even more as they confirmed what I thought: I had horrible neck posture. I was worried I would have posture like MY MUM (I love my mum).
I must have attended every seminar going on posture. I trained with top posture experts like Professor Stuart McGill. I learned about techniques inside and outside of chiropractic and still my forward head posture plagued me. I woke one morning and I looked at my posture in the mirror (something I was accustomed to doing daily). This day I saw something different. The penny dropped. How could I have been so stupid? All along I’ve have been telling my patients to look at the whole. To understand that they didn’t have a low back problem, a shoulder problem, a knee problem but a problem with their body as 1 whole. I had forgotten my own Golden Rule.
This moment may just have changed my life (cue the violins) because it was at this moment I began creating PostureVideos. I wanted to teach the secrets to great posture and ageing well. I decided I only want to work with people who want to be well. Really well, not just quick fix out of pain. I decided to help people by creating videos so they could learn what I know.
So this is me. I help people regain confident, youthful posture so they age well. As my videos grow in popularity, I have begun creating programs and products. My posture obsession is now my full-time devotion-PostureVideos.

Maintaining good posture not only helps you look better, it improves muscle tone, makes breathing easier and is one of the best ways to stave off back and neck pain, not to mention the dreaded dowager’s hump of old age.
